Meet the Team

Contact Keith on:

Dr Keith Bean is a founder and the Managing Director

Keith graduated in Chemistry from the University of Bristol in 1993 and joined Professor Brian Vincent's research group (Bristol) to undertake his PhD in colloid science. His research was the study of the stability of silica dispersions in non-aqueous binary solvent mixtures.

Keith was previously a Senior Research Scientist at the Bristol Colloid Centre from 1997 to 2011. Keith has experience of working in many different areas, including paints and coatings, pharmaceuticals, hard surface cleaners, fuel additives, aerosols, adhesives, agrochemicals, veterinary medicine, foodstuffs, medical devices, cosmetics and visual displays. His major interests are in the determination of porosity and surface area of powders, contact angle and interfacial tension of liquids, novel particle synthesis methods and novel product formulation.

Contact Claire on:

Dr Claire Jenkins is a founder and the Technical Director

Claire graduated from Cardiff University in the year 2000 with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. Following this, Claire gained her PhD (2004) whilst working with Professor Peter Griffiths at Cardiff University on an industrially funded project (Columbian Chemicals) studying the rheology of aqueous and non-aqueous carbon black ink dispersions.

Claire joined the Bristol Colloid Centre at the University of Bristol in 2004 as a Senior Research Scientist and continued to work there until it's closure in 2011. Claire has experience at working on a variety of colloid and surface science programmes based in the areas of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, personal care, inks and coatings, fuel cells, medical devices and agrochemicals.

Contact Sam on:

Dr Samantha Hutton is a Senior Scientist and the Courses Manager

Samantha completed her PhD in 1995 at the school of Pharmacy, University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) in collaboration with GSK (formerly Wellcome) studying the microstructure of model dermatological formulations.

Samantha worked at the Bristol Colloid Centre from 1996 to 2011 and has worked in many areas of colloid and surface chemistry including microemulsions, non-aqueous dispersions, three-phase systems, inks, coatings and aerosols.

After a brief spell at Sun Chemicals, Samantha joined Formumetrics in October 2011 as a Senior Scientist. In addition to her scientific role, Samantha is also responsible for the continuing education and personal development portfolio.

Contact Cheryl on:

Dr Cheryl Flynn is a Senior Scientist

Cheryl has a degree (1980) in Chemistry from the Univeristy of Bristol and completed her PhD in 1992 at the School of Chemisty, University of Bristol in collaboration with BP studying the association of hydrophobically modified polymers in solution.

After her first degree, Cheryl joined BP Research, working with surfactants and polymers for oil spill clean up, and in enhanced oil recovery. Cheryl then worked at the Bristol Colloid Centre from 1993 to 2011 and has worked in many areas of colloid and surface chemistry including microemulsions, non-aqueous dispersions, three-phase systems, inks, coatings, aerosols, particle characterisation and rheology.

Cheryl joined Formumetrics in February 2012 as a Senior Scientist.
