Formulations, measurements and solutions for industry

Product Development

Do you have an idea for a new product and want to know whether it is feasible?

For many companies, new and innovative formulations are the key to success.
We apply colloid science know-how to improve existing products or to develop new ones.

The Formumetrics team can work alongside your in-house specialists to develop formulations or carry out development combined with research to enhance your internal capability.

A typical study will start with an idea, and include one or more of the following stages:

Feasibility study - Formumetrics can undertake research to determine whether an idea or concept is scientifically feasible based on prior art and recent innovations. This activity will generally comprise a study of specialist scientific articles, patents, open-source literature, and our own work experiences.

Proof of Concept or Principle - This type of project will consist of experimental studies to prove that the production of a particular material or that a particular process is achievable. In general, these projects do not result in a finished product, however the aim is to demonstrate that it can be done.

Proof of Product - A study of this kind will result in the production of a real material, with many of the attributes that are required in the desired product. In this case, the product will be developed based on the outcome of the proof of concept study and will result in a material with many of the desired properties .

Marketing Demonstrators - This includes the production of prototypes, which are physical examples of a product, in order to demonstrate the possibility of what can be achieved. Generally this demonstrator will be required for marketing purposes.

New Product Development - Once a marketing demonstrator has been approved, work can begin to develop the "new product" using preferred methods and materials. During development, the aim is to produce a product that is fit for market however it is important that a balance is achieved between the ease and cost of manufacture and the end product properties.
